This legislation, known as the ROUTERS Act , mandates the Secretary of Commerce to undertake a comprehensive study. The study will investigate the national security risks and cybersecurity vulnerabilities associated with consumer routers, modems, and devices that combine both functionalities. The focus of this examination is on hardware designed, developed, manufactured, or supplied by entities that are owned by, controlled by, or subject to the influence of a covered country , as defined by specific provisions in title 10 of the U.S. Code. Within one year of the Act's enactment, the Secretary is required to submit a detailed report on the study's findings to the relevant committees in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
