Sickle Cell Disease and Other Heritable Blood Disorders Research, Surveillance, Prevention, and Treatment Act of 2025

This bill reauthorizes and significantly enhances a federal demonstration program focused on sickle cell disease under the Public Health Service Act. It increases the program's annual funding to $8,205,000 for fiscal years 2025 through 2029, a substantial rise from previous allocations. The legislation expands the program's scope to explicitly include the prevention and treatment of complications associated with sickle cell disease, alongside its general treatment. Additionally, it provides greater flexibility by allowing the Secretary to utilize grants and cooperative agreements, not just contracts, for program implementation. A Sense of Congress is also included, underscoring the importance of continued research to expand understanding of the causes and to find cures for heritable blood disorders, such as sickle cell disease.
