This legislation aims to combat the devastating fungal disease known as Rapid Ohia Death , which has killed over a million native Ohia trees in Hawaii. It mandates that the Secretary of the Interior partner and collaborate with the Secretary of Agriculture and the State of Hawaii to address this ecological threat. The bill outlines specific sustained efforts, requiring the Department of the Interior to continue research on disease vectors and transmission, and to partner with the State for ungulate management in control areas. The Department of Agriculture will continue providing financial assistance for prevention and forest restoration, and fund research at the Institute of Pacific Islands Forestry. To support these critical initiatives, the Act authorizes an appropriation of $5,000,000 annually for each of fiscal years 2026 through 2036.
