This bill mandates the Secretary of Homeland Security to establish an interdepartmental pilot program within 180 days of enactment. This program, in collaboration with the Secretaries of Defense and Veterans Affairs, will utilize the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program to train and hire transitioning servicemembers as Border Patrol agents for U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The pilot program will leverage existing authorities under title 10, United States Code, to facilitate the transition of Armed Forces members into Border Patrol service. Annual reports will be submitted to Congress detailing participant numbers and demographics, including active duty, reserve, veterans, and their families. The program is designed to sunset five years after its establishment.
