This bill, known as the Veterans Border Patrol Training Act, directs the Secretary of Homeland Security to establish a pilot program within 180 days of enactment. This program, in collaboration with the Secretaries of Defense and Veterans Affairs, will use the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program to train and hire transitioning servicemembers as Border Patrol agents for U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The initiative aims to facilitate the transition of military personnel into civilian law enforcement roles. The Secretary of Homeland Security is required to submit annual reports to relevant congressional committees, detailing the number of participants and applicants, as well as demographic information including servicemembers, veterans, and their families. This reporting ensures oversight and tracks the program's effectiveness. The pilot program is designed to be temporary, with a sunset date five years after its establishment.
