Fair SHARE Act of 2025

This bill introduces new federal excise taxes on the sale of electric vehicles and specific heavy battery modules , aiming to ensure these vehicles contribute to highway infrastructure funding. It mandates a tax of $1,000 on each electric vehicle sold by its manufacturer, producer, or importer. Furthermore, a tax of $550 will be imposed on battery modules weighing more than 1,000 pounds that are intended for use in electric vehicles. The legislation defines an electric vehicle as a light-duty vehicle, explicitly excluding hybrid vehicles from this new tax. All funds collected from these new taxes are designated for transfer to the Highway Trust Fund , with the provisions taking effect for sales occurring after December 31, 2025.
