RECOVER PII Act

This bill, known as the RECOVER PII Act , aims to significantly enhance and extend identity protection for individuals affected by data breaches at federal agencies. It amends existing law to make identity protection coverage available for the remainder of the life of an affected individual, moving beyond previous time limitations. Furthermore, the bill mandates that this extended coverage include not less than $5,000,000 in identity theft insurance, substantially increasing the financial protection offered. Beyond reactive measures, the legislation also introduces a new provision allowing federal agencies to reimburse employees for up to 100 percent of the costs incurred for privacy-enhancing services, such as software or hardware solutions that mitigate privacy risks. This aims to proactively protect the personal information of federal employees and contractors.
