Promoting Precision Agriculture Act of 2025

This legislative proposal aims to significantly enhance the adoption and effectiveness of precision agriculture across the United States. It seeks to promote American leadership in developing relevant voluntary consensus standards for this sector. The bill defines precision agriculture as managing and tracking crop or livestock production inputs at a heightened level of granularity to improve efficiencies and reduce waste, encompassing various technologies from geospatial mapping to AI. To achieve these aims, the bill directs the Secretary of Agriculture, in collaboration with the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Federal Communications Commission, to develop voluntary, consensus-based interconnectivity standards for precision agriculture within two years. The development process will involve extensive coordination with public and trusted private sector stakeholders , ensuring the integration of advanced wireless communications technology and artificial intelligence . Additionally, the Government Accountability Office is tasked with conducting biennial studies, starting one year after the standards are developed, to assess their effectiveness and success in encouraging precision agriculture adoption, with reports submitted to Congress.
