Save Our Shrimpers Act

The "Save Our Shrimpers Act" mandates that the United States Executive Directors at international financial institutions (IFIs) actively use their voice and vote to oppose any financial assistance provided by these institutions for projects related to shrimp farming, shrimp processing, or the export of shrimp in borrowing countries. This measure is designed to protect domestic shrimp industries from foreign competition potentially subsidized by international aid. The bill includes a provision allowing the Secretary of the Treasury to waive this opposition requirement for a specific project. Such a waiver can only be granted if the Secretary notifies Congress that it is in the national interest of the United States. Importantly, the directive for U.S. Executive Directors to oppose these projects is not permanent, as it will expire after a 7-year period from the date of the Act's enactment.
