Save Our Shrimpers Act

This bill requires the Secretary of the Treasury to instruct U.S. Executive Directors at international financial institutions to use their voice and vote to oppose financial assistance for projects supporting shrimp farming, processing, or export in borrowing countries. This measure aims to influence international lending practices regarding the global shrimp industry. The Secretary of the Treasury retains the authority to waive this opposition for a project if it is determined to be in the national interest of the United States , with prior notification to Congress. This provides a mechanism for exceptions under specific circumstances. The directive to oppose these projects is not indefinite, as it includes an expiration clause . The requirement will automatically cease to have effect seven years after the date of the bill's enactment.
