This legislation aims to expand burial benefits for veterans' families by directing the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to provide a plot or interment allowance . This allowance is specifically for eligible spouses and children of veterans who are buried in cemeteries owned by a State or its political subdivisions. The bill amends title 38, United States Code, to establish a payment of $525 , subject to future adjustments, to the relevant State entity for each qualifying burial. Eligibility extends to a veteran's spouse, surviving spouse (including those who remarried), minor child (under 21, or under 23 if a student), or, at the Secretary's discretion, an unmarried adult child. These provisions will apply to deaths occurring on or after the bill's enactment date.
