Habitat Enhancement Now Act

This bill establishes two competitive grant programs, administered by the Secretary of the Interior, to sustain migratory waterfowl populations by enhancing nesting and breeding success. These programs aim to complement existing habitat conservation efforts through targeted interventions. One grant program will fund the strategic placement and maintenance of "hen houses" in the prairie pothole region, which are cylindrical nest structures designed to improve nesting success rates for waterfowl. The second program focuses on developing breeding habitat in California. The California program supports activities like establishing nesting cover , creating brood ponds , and offering incentives to landowners for habitat enhancements. Each grant program is allocated $3,500,000 annually for fiscal years 2026 through 2030, ensuring dedicated funding for these conservation initiatives.
