This legislation aims to continue and further evaluate the Acute Hospital Care at Home (AHCaH) initiative by extending its current waiver flexibilities. These flexibilities, which allow hospitals to deliver acute care services in patients' homes, are extended from their current expiration date of 2025 to September 30, 2030 . The bill mandates a new, comprehensive study to be completed by September 30, 2028 . This study will analyze the criteria hospitals use for patient eligibility in the AHCaH program and conduct a detailed comparison between AHCaH and traditional inpatient care. Key areas of comparison include quality of care , such as health outcomes, readmission rates, and mortality, alongside hospital costs for staffing and equipment. Additionally, the study will examine the quantity and intensity of services, patient and caregiver experience, and socioeconomic information of treated individuals. It will also compare outcomes for patients entering AHCaH directly from an emergency department versus those transferring from an existing inpatient stay, while controlling for selection bias, with a report submitted to Congress.
