This legislation, known as the POLICE Act of 2025, seeks to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to designate the assault of a law enforcement officer as a specific deportable offense for aliens. Under this bill, an alien would be considered deportable if they have been convicted of , or admit to committing, an offense involving such an assault. The bill specifies that the assault must occur while the officer is engaged in their official duties , or because of the performance of those duties, or due to their status as a law enforcement officer. It broadly defines "law enforcement officer" to encompass individuals involved in criminal law enforcement activities, as well as firefighters and other first responders . Additionally, the Secretary of Homeland Security would be mandated to submit an annual public report to Congress detailing the number of aliens deported under this new provision.
