This bill, known as the "Housing Unhoused Disabled Veterans Act," seeks to enhance housing access for disabled veterans by modifying how their income is calculated for specific housing programs. It amends the United States Housing Act of 1937 to exclude certain disability benefits received from the Department of Veterans Affairs (under chapters 11 or 15 of title 38, U.S. Code) from income determinations. These VA disability benefits will no longer count towards income eligibility for the supported housing program under section 8(o)(19) , both for initial qualification and for continued eligibility for related housing assistance, though this exclusion does not apply to "adjusted income." Furthermore, the bill directs the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to exclude these same benefits when assessing a veteran's eligibility to rent residential units constructed on Department of Veterans Affairs property that receive housing assistance.
