This legislation seeks to improve access to housing assistance for disabled veterans by modifying how their income is calculated. It specifically amends the United States Housing Act of 1937 to exclude certain disability benefits from income for eligibility purposes under the supported housing program (Section 8(o)(19)) . The bill specifies that disability benefits received by veterans under chapter 11 or chapter 15 of title 38, United States Code , will not be counted as income when determining eligibility for this program, or for other types of housing assistance once a household is receiving rental assistance under 8(o)(19). However, this exclusion does not apply to the definition of adjusted income. Furthermore, for new housing assistance programs administered by the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development for residential units constructed on Department of Veterans Affairs property, these same disability benefits must also be excluded from a veteran's income when determining eligibility.
