COMPASS Act

This bill, known as the COMPASS Act, seeks to provide relief for military families who homeschool their dependent children by amending the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act. Its primary purposes are to ensure uninterrupted educational continuity for military-connected students and to reduce the administrative and legal burdens caused by frequent relocations and conflicting state homeschooling requirements. The legislation achieves this by stipulating that a dependent child of a servicemember, educated at home and subject to a permanent change of station, will be considered in compliance with the compulsory education and homeschooling laws of the new state. This compliance is met if the child adheres to the laws of either the new state or the servicemember's legal residence state . This measure aims to support family stability and servicemember readiness by aligning homeschooling treatment with existing federal protections for military families.
