This bill requires the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness to designate a senior official within 90 days to oversee all Department of Defense policies and programs for servicemembers transitioning to civilian life or reserve components. This official must possess extensive experience with veterans services and a deep understanding of the transition process from active duty to civilian or reserve status. The designated official will serve as the principal advisor to DoD leadership and the chief transition officer , tasked with coordinating and overseeing the effectiveness of all DoD transition programs. Their responsibilities include working with the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Labor, and Education to improve support services, reviewing existing programs like the Transition Assistance Program and Skillbridge, and proposing actions to enhance their efficacy and compliance. This aims to ensure all members of the Armed Forces are well-equipped for their post-service endeavors.
