National Transit Frontline Workforce Training Act

This bill, known as the National Transit Frontline Workforce Training Act, mandates the Secretary of Transportation to establish a Transit Workforce Center . The Center's primary mission is to bolster the public transportation industry by supporting the recruitment, hiring, training, and retention of skilled frontline workers, ultimately aiming to improve transit efficiency, safety, and reliability. The Secretary will award grants to a qualified national nonprofit organization with demonstrated experience in public transportation workforce development to operate the Center. This organization must have expertise in providing technical assistance, conducting outreach, supporting standards-based training, and addressing emerging technology needs within the transit sector. The Center's duties include developing and providing specialized training programs for urban, suburban, rural, and Tribal transit providers, as well as creating and disseminating educational materials. It will also offer technical assistance, conduct data analytics on workforce trends, and engage in outreach to promote its resources and initiatives, all while fostering collaboration with industry stakeholders and frontline employee representatives.
