The bill directs the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to revise its regulations under 40 CFR 1068.225(d) within 90 days of enactment. This revision aims to facilitate national security exemptions for engines and equipment used by various public service agencies. The amended regulations will authorize manufacturers to request these exemptions for equipment intended for Federal, State, or local agencies involved in law enforcement , disaster relief , search and rescue , fire response , or emergency medical services . Federal agencies responsible for national defense and the Department of Homeland Security (including FEMA) will be able to endorse these requests. Crucially, neither the request nor the endorsement will be required to specify a quantity of engines or equipment to be exempted, simplifying the process for acquiring essential gear.
