Updated: Nov 7, 2025

Summary

The USS Frank E. Evans Act directs the Secretary of Defense to authorize the inclusion of the names of 74 crew members of the USS Frank E. Evans on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. These crew members were tragically killed on June 3, 1969 , and their names are to be added within one year of the act's enactment. To facilitate this, the Secretary of Defense must consult with the Secretary of the Interior , the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund , and other applicable authorities. This consultation will address any necessary adjustments to the nomenclature and placement of names, particularly concerning potential space limitations on the Memorial Wall. Significantly, the provisions of the Commemorative Works Act (Chapter 89 of title 40, United States Code) will not apply to any activities carried out under this act, streamlining the process for adding these names.
