Stop Greenlighting Driver Licenses for Illegal Immigrants Act

This legislative proposal aims to impose financial penalties on states that do not align with federal immigration enforcement policies. Specifically, it targets states that issue driver licenses to individuals lacking proof of United States citizenship or lawful presence. It also addresses states that prohibit or restrict local or state government entities from collecting, sending, or receiving immigration enforcement information with the Department of Homeland Security. States found to be in non-compliance would face significant consequences regarding their federal funding. They would be required to return any unobligated Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program funds within 30 days of non-compliance. Furthermore, these states would become ineligible to receive future funds from this program until they implement laws or policies that prohibit driver license issuance to undocumented individuals and permit the sharing of immigration enforcement information with federal authorities.
