Francis G. Newlands Memorial Removal Act

This legislation mandates the removal or permanent concealment of the name of Francis Newlands from the memorial fountain located at Chevy Chase Circle in the District of Columbia. The Secretary of the Interior is directed to specifically remove a brass plaque , a stone, tablet-like projection , and the name "Newlands" carved into the fountain's coping stones. The bill specifies that any items removed must first be offered to the descendants of Francis Griffith Newlands for a period of 60 days. If these items are not claimed within that timeframe, they are to be maintained by the National Park Service as Federal property and accessioned into the Rock Creek Park museum collection.
