This legislation authorizes the award of three Congressional Gold Medals to the members of the 1980 United States Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team. This honor recognizes their extraordinary achievement at the 1980 Winter Olympics, where the amateur collegiate players defeated the dominant Soviet hockey team in the historic "Miracle on Ice." The victory revitalized American morale at the height of the Cold War, inspiring generations and profoundly transforming the sport of hockey in the United States. Congress finds that this event, which occurred amidst national struggles, was a significant turning point for ice hockey, leading to exponential growth in participation and professional players since 1980. Following their award, one gold medal each will be given to the Lake Placid Olympic Center, the United States Hockey Hall of Fame Museum, and the United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum for public display and research. The Secretary of the Treasury is authorized to strike and sell duplicate bronze medals, with proceeds from these sales deposited into the United States Mint Public Enterprise Fund to cover costs.
