This bill directs the Secretaries of Agriculture, the Interior, and Homeland Security to jointly conduct a quadrennial fire review of the comprehensive wildfire environment in the United States. This review will include a quantitative analysis of changes to built and natural environments and their impact on pre-fire mitigation, incident response, and recovery. It will also analyze the intersection between wildfire and public health, in coordination with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Secretaries are required to submit a report to relevant congressional committees within 12 months of enactment, and every four years thereafter for 20 years. This report must summarize anticipated wildfire challenges for the subsequent 20-year period and provide recommendations for necessary Federal legislation and administrative actions. It will also evaluate progress toward established wildfire management goals and the recommendations from the Wildland Fire Mitigation and Management Commission, projecting future scenarios to inform strategic realignments.
Referred to the Committee on Natural Resources, and in addition to the Committees on Agriculture, Science, Space, and Technology, and Transportation and Infrastructure, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
