This legislation mandates that the Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) develop or identify, and then disseminate, resources specifically tailored for small businesses regarding artificial intelligence (AI). Subject to the availability of appropriations, these resources are designed to assist small businesses in the understanding, adoption, or integration of AI technologies. Such resources may encompass technical standards, best practices, benchmarks, methodologies, procedures, or processes . NIST must ensure these resources are broadly applicable, technology-neutral, and include elements that promote a basic understanding and identification of proper AI use cases, along with practical application case studies. The Director is also required to review and update these resources at least every two years. Dissemination efforts will be coordinated with the Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA) through its resource partners, and the use of these resources will be entirely voluntary. Finally, NIST must submit a report to Congress within four years detailing the development, dissemination, and use of these AI resources, including feedback and recommendations for future actions.
