This bill aims to enhance security at specific events and locations by expanding the authority to counter unmanned aircraft systems. It authorizes the Secretary of Homeland Security or the Attorney General to deputize State or local law enforcement officers for this purpose, empowering them to exercise existing federal authority to protect sites with flight restrictions, eligible large public gatherings, or other public gatherings under temporary flight restrictions. To ensure effective and safe implementation, the bill mandates that only officers who have completed specific training , as determined by the Secretary or Attorney General in coordination with the Department of Transportation and the FAA, can be deputized. Furthermore, the use of equipment for unmanned aircraft system detection, identification, monitoring, or tracking is limited to systems on an authorized list , maintained by the Department of Homeland Security in coordination with other relevant agencies, ensuring oversight and standardized practices for protecting critical events from drone threats.
