This legislation mandates that the Secretary of Health and Human Services, acting through the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, collect and make publicly available comprehensive information regarding concussion and traumatic brain injury among public safety officers. This includes research on evidence-based practices , personal protective equipment recommendations, and medical information related to diagnosing, treating, and reducing the incidence of these injuries. The collected information will be disseminated through updates to the CDC website and other means, targeting medical and public health professionals, public safety employers, mental health professionals, patients and their families, and researchers. The Secretary is required to consult with these stakeholders to ensure the information's content, quality, and utility meet the needs of the public safety community. Furthermore, the Secretary may support public and private efforts to develop model guidelines and protocols for treating these injuries through grants, contracts, or cooperative agreements.
