This legislation mandates the Secretary of the Interior to undertake a comprehensive study of the Deerfield River in Massachusetts and Vermont. The primary goal of this study is to assess the river's eligibility for designation into the national wild and scenic rivers system , a program designed to preserve rivers with outstanding natural, cultural, and recreational values. The scope of the study is extensive, covering the entire Deerfield River, including its North, South, East, and West Branches, as well as numerous major tributaries such as the Green River, North River, and Cold River. Following the completion of this detailed assessment, the Secretary is required to submit a comprehensive report detailing the study's results to the appropriate committees of Congress. This report must be delivered within three years after funds are made available for the study.
