This bill amends the Homeland Security Act of 2002, requiring the Secretary of Homeland Security to develop a comprehensive national school security strategy within one year of enactment. This strategy, created in consultation with the Secretary of Education and other federal agencies, aims to enhance domestic preparedness for and response to acts of terrorism specifically targeting elementary and secondary schools. The strategy must account for all existing Federal programs and spending related to securing schools from terrorism, identify specific security vulnerabilities , and establish clear goals for addressing these weaknesses. It will also describe the necessary actions and resources to achieve these goals, aiming to streamline and improve current efforts. Furthermore, the Secretary is required to update this strategy annually through 2033, if appropriate, and report these updates to relevant Congressional committees.
