Improving Measurements for Loneliness and Isolation Act of 2025

The bill mandates the Secretary of Health and Human Services to establish a national working group, to be known as the Working Group on Unifying Loneliness Research . This group is tasked with formulating recommendations for standardizing the measurements and definitions of loneliness and isolation. Its primary goals include fostering collaboration among federal agencies to develop consistent measurement tools for public and private research, and creating standardized definitions for public education and awareness. The working group will comprise senior-level representatives from various Department of Health and Human Services agencies, such as the CDC, NIH, and CMS, along with representatives from states with varying mental health professional shortages. Within one year of enactment, the group must submit a comprehensive report detailing its work and recommendations to specific congressional committees, making it publicly available. This section of the Act is set to expire at the end of calendar year 2027.
