SMASH 2.0 Act

This bill, known as the SMASH 2.0 Act , reauthorizes and amends the existing Mosquito Abatement for Safety and Health program to enhance surveillance and control of mosquito-borne and other vector-borne diseases. It extends the authorization of appropriations for the program, allocating $100,000,000 annually for fiscal years 2026 through 2030. Key updates include allowing the Secretary to consider innovative and novel technology for mosquito prevention and control when awarding grants, and clarifying that funds can be used for technical assistance and continuing education for personnel, including public health entomologists. Additionally, the legislation introduces a new provision for coordination with the Strategic National Stockpile , authorizing the Secretary to prepare it for nonperishable vector-borne disease control products and integrate an emergency stockpiling strategy into the national plan.
