COMPASS Act

This legislative proposal, titled the COMPASS Act , aims to amend the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to ensure that students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) receive a certificate upon completing their secondary school education. The bill specifically modifies Section 614(d)(1)(A)(i)(VIII) of IDEA, which details the required elements of an IEP. Under the proposed changes, each IEP must include a projected date for the child's completion of secondary education and a clear statement guaranteeing that the child will receive a certification of completion on that date. This certification is to be awarded without regard to whether the child is eligible to receive a regular secondary school diploma , providing formal recognition for the educational achievements of students with disabilities.
