These pioneers, seeking religious freedom, endured severe persecution and a challenging 1,300-mile journey across the American West. Led by Brigham Young, they faced extreme cold, disease, and hunger, making immense sacrifices to find a place to worship freely. Upon arrival, they immediately began to build a new life, transforming the desert into a thriving community. Over subsequent decades, these pioneers and their descendants established more than 500 communities, playing a foundational role in the development of the American West. The resolution commends their legacy of industry, cooperation, and faith, which continues to benefit the United States. It also encourages all Americans to reflect on the enduring virtues of self-reliance, enterprise, and perseverance embodied by the pioneers, carrying forward this spirit of resilience in their own generation.
