This bill, titled the "Let's Get to Work Act of 2025," significantly alters the work requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) . It modifies Section 6(o) of the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 , primarily by adjusting who is exempt from these requirements. For instance, the age for exemption is raised from 50 to 60 years, and the age of a dependent child for parental exemption is lowered from 18 to under 6 years of age. These changes mean that more individuals, including those aged 50-59 and parents with children aged 6-17, would become subject to SNAP work requirements. Additionally, the bill introduces a new exemption for individuals responsible for a dependent if they are married to and reside with someone already complying with work requirements. While generally tightening exemptions, it also extends the time limit for parents or guardians of dependent children to receive SNAP benefits without meeting work requirements from three months to six months . Beyond SNAP, the legislation expands the reach of these modified work requirements to other federal assistance programs . Specifically, the bill mandates that the same work requirements outlined for SNAP will apply to individuals residing in public housing . These requirements will also extend to those receiving tenant-based rental assistance , such as Section 8 vouchers . Individuals exempted from SNAP work requirements under the bill's provisions would similarly be exempt from these new housing assistance work requirements, aiming to standardize eligibility criteria across these programs.
