Pay Our Coast Guard Act

This bill, known as the "Pay Our Coast Guard Act," establishes a mechanism to ensure the continued payment of salaries and benefits for Coast Guard personnel during specific government funding gaps. It amends title 14 of the United States Code to provide automatic appropriations when a Coast Guard-specific funding lapse occurs, recognizing the Coast Guard as a military service deserving equitable treatment. A funding lapse is triggered when the Coast Guard lacks an enacted appropriation bill or continuing resolution, but the Department of Defense has one in effect. During such a period, the bill appropriates necessary sums for the pay and allowances of military members , including reservists, and for the pay and benefits of qualified civilian and contract employees performing essential support or emergency work. Additionally, the legislation covers critical benefits like death gratuities , funeral travel, and temporary housing allowances for dependents of members who die on active duty. These appropriations are available until a new Coast Guard appropriation is enacted or Department of Defense appropriations terminate, providing financial stability for personnel during budget impasses.
