Kayleigh’s Law Act of 2026

This bill, known as Kayleigh's Law Act of 2026, amends title 18 of the U.S. Code to establish a new provision for "natural lifetime injunctions." These injunctions are mandatory for defendants convicted of a covered offense , which includes federal felonies involving crimes of violence or sexual acts or conduct, such as human trafficking, sexual abuse, and child exploitation. The order, prohibiting any direct or indirect contact between the defendant and the victim, is issued by the court at the time of sentencing upon motion from the government (with victim consent) or the victim. Once issued, the injunction remains in effect for the life of the defendant , with violations punishable as contempt of court. Termination or suspension of the injunction is only possible under specific circumstances, such as a motion from the victim alleging a pardon or change in circumstances, or a motion from the defendant if the conviction is dismissed or overturned on appeal. Importantly, no fee may be assessed to a victim for the issuance of this protective order.
