FIRE Cancer Act of 2026

This bill, known as the FIRE Cancer Act of 2026, amends the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974 to expand the eligible uses of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program . It specifically allows grant funds to be used for establishing cancer prevention programs for firefighting personnel. These programs are designed to include crucial services such as multi-cancer early detection testing and other forms of preventative tests. To support these initiatives, the bill authorizes an appropriation of $700,000,000 for grants specifically for cancer prevention programs, with a cap of $1,750 per multi-cancer early detection or preventative test. Furthermore, it mandates the Administrator of FEMA and the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to jointly establish a voluntary program . This program will enable firefighting personnel to share anonymized and de-identified test results to help identify trends and causes of cancer within the profession, safeguarding personal information.
