Prescription Information Modernization Act of 2026

The Prescription Information Modernization Act of 2026 amends the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to permit drug manufacturers to provide FDA-approved prescribing information for certain drugs exclusively through electronic means. This aims to modernize the delivery of crucial drug details to healthcare professionals. However, manufacturers are required to offer prescribers and dispensers the option to continue receiving paper copies or to request them on an as-needed basis, which must be provided promptly and without additional cost. The Secretary of Health and Human Services must issue final regulations within one year to implement this amendment, ensuring instructions for obtaining paper copies and minimizing adverse economic impacts on prescribers and dispensers. Furthermore, a public workshop will be held to discuss optimizing the format, accessibility, and usability of prescribing information.
