The Consular Operations and Regional Engagement in the Pacific Act, or CORE Pacific Act, directs the Secretary of State to coordinate with the Coast Guard and Navy to analyze the feasibility of attaching Department of State consular officers to military missions in Pacific Island countries. This initiative stems from a Sense of Congress recognizing these nations, particularly the Freely Associated States, as vital strategic partners whose strong relations are crucial for United States national security interests. Within 120 days of enactment, a comprehensive report must be submitted to Congress detailing various aspects of this proposal. The report will include an assessment of the current demand for consular services and challenges faced by Pacific Island citizens, alongside the potential value and cost implications for all involved agencies. Furthermore, it will evaluate the frequency and duration of Coast Guard and Navy deployments to the region, and address critical logistical issues such as vessel spacing, information technology requirements, visa printing capabilities, and the physical security of consular officers during these missions.
