Gas Money Saved Act

This bill mandates that the Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) initiate a process to reevaluate corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards . This reevaluation is triggered if national average gasoline prices rise at least five times faster than overall inflation over a period of 180 days or longer, with the goal of determining if current standards achieve maximum feasible average fuel economy . Furthermore, the legislation amends existing law to restore penalties for manufacturers who fail to meet the established CAFE standards. Specifically, it increases the penalty from $0.00 to $25 in one subsection and from $0.00 to $50 in another, thereby reinstating financial consequences for non-compliance.
