Improving Personal Risk Assessments to Prevent Suicide Act

This bill mandates that the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, in consultation with the Secretary of Defense, produce a comprehensive report and provide a briefing to Congress. This report must analyze the impact of military sexual trauma and intimate partner violence on suicidal ideation and suicide among members of the Armed Forces and veterans. It is required to be submitted within 18 months of enactment and made publicly available. Following the publication of this report, the Secretaries of Defense and Veterans Affairs are directed to incorporate its findings. Specifically, the identified links between military sexual trauma, intimate partner violence, and suicide risk must be integrated into the Department of Veterans Affairs/Department of Defense Clinical Practice Guidelines for Assessment and Management of Patients at Risk for Suicide within one year.
