Remote Waste Storage Act

This legislation, known as the Remote Waste Storage Act , modifies the Solid Waste Disposal Act to address challenges faced by hazardous waste generators in isolated locations. It specifically amends Section 3001(d)(6) to allow for an extended period of onsite waste accumulation under certain conditions. Generators who lack year-round surface transportation access to a hazardous waste treatment, storage, or disposal facility may now store their waste onsite for up to two years. This provision aims to provide flexibility for communities and businesses in remote areas where immediate transport of hazardous waste is impractical or impossible due to geographical or logistical constraints. Crucially, all such extended onsite storage must be conducted in strict compliance with all applicable laws and regulations to ensure environmental protection and public safety.
