Fresh Produce for Families Act of 2026

This legislation aims to enhance the procurement options available to state agencies participating in the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). It specifically amends the Emergency Food Assistance Act of 1983 to introduce a new provision for commodity acquisition. Under this amendment, a state agency can request permission from the Secretary to utilize up to 20 percent of the cost of commodities allocated to it under TEFAP. This designated portion can then be used to order commodities, primarily fresh produce, through the established Department of Defense Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program . This change offers states greater flexibility in sourcing nutritious food for beneficiaries of the emergency food assistance program.
