Protecting Asylum Integrity Act

This bill amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to establish a new fee for credible fear interviews, aiming to recover processing costs and deter meritless claims. It mandates the Secretary of Homeland Security to assess and collect a fee of not less than $100 for each credible fear interview, which must be paid before the interview is conducted. This measure is presented as consistent with congressional policy for cost recovery in immigration claims processing.

The legislation further specifies that the fee amount will be adjusted annually for inflation, beginning in fiscal year 2027. Regarding revenue allocation, 50 percent of the collected fees will be deposited into the Immigration Examinations Fee Account to support U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services' processing and operational costs. The remaining 50 percent of the fees will be directed to the general fund of the Treasury, serving as a budgetary measure to increase federal revenues.
