This bill proposes to substantially increase civil penalties for various immigration-related offenses, amending the Immigration and Nationality Act. It significantly raises fines for employers who knowingly hire unauthorized aliens , with new penalty ranges reaching up to $57,238 for repeat violations. The legislation also imposes higher civil penalties on aliens who fail to depart the U.S. after a final removal order, increasing the fine from $500 to $1,996. Furthermore, it targets aliens who improperly enter or attempt to enter the country without authorization, adjusting their civil penalty range from $50-$250 to $200-$1,000. To maintain their value, all these increased penalty amounts will undergo an annual inflation adjustment starting October 1, 2027, based on the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U).
