Maternal Health for Veterans Act

This bill, titled the "Maternal Health for Veterans Act," requires the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to implement a comprehensive maternity care coordination program for eligible veterans. This program is designed to provide continuous care from the onset of pregnancy until 12 months postpartum. Key requirements include systematically compiling and reviewing data on mental health screenings conducted by maternity care coordinators, and establishing a performance management process to track program goals and measure progress.

Furthermore, the bill mandates that the Secretary provide training and support to community maternity care providers, specifically addressing the unique mental and behavioral health needs of pregnant and postpartum veterans. An annual report is required, detailing program activities, maternal health outcomes (including mortality and severe morbidity), and progress on implementing recommendations from oversight bodies. This report must disaggregate data by veteran characteristics such as race, ethnicity, age, disability, and rural residency, with a particular focus on improving outcomes for demographic groups experiencing elevated rates of adverse maternal health outcomes, all while ensuring strict adherence to federal privacy laws.
