This bill directs the Secretary of Labor to establish a competitive grant program aimed at bolstering the nation's cybersecurity workforce. Grants will be awarded to workforce intermediaries to facilitate the establishment, implementation, and expansion of registered apprenticeship programs in cybersecurity . These programs are designed to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in this critical sector, incorporating comprehensive technical instruction , practical workplace training , and leading to industry-recognized certifications such as CompTIA Security+ or CISSP. They are structured to encourage stackable and portable credentials , preparing apprentices for key occupations like cybersecurity support technicians, cloud computing architects, and security specialists. At least 85% of grant funds must be used for core activities, including development and technical support for apprenticeship registration and assisting employers with logistical issues. Funds also support employer partnerships for curriculum development, covering offsite training costs, and providing support services for apprentices like career counseling, mentorship, and assistance with transportation, housing, or child care. Up to 15% of funds may be used for outreach and marketing to potential apprentices, including underrepresented populations, and for collaboration among workforce intermediaries to share best practices.
