The Plum Island Preservation Act mandates the permanent protection of Plum Island, New York, and its associated properties. This preservation is specifically for ecological conservation , the discovery and celebration of its historical and cultural heritage , and maintaining public access to the island. Within 180 days of the Act's enactment, the Administrator of General Services must initiate formal visioning sessions. These sessions, conducted in consultation with federal and state agencies, tribal governments, and other stakeholders, will form the basis for a future ecological management plan for Plum Island. The bill also requires the Administrator to submit annual reports to Congress. These reports will detail the consultations, discussions, outcomes, and estimated timelines of the visioning sessions until the ecological management plan is completed.
