Home School Graduation Recognition Act

This bill proposes to amend the Higher Education Act of 1965, specifically Section 484(d), to formally recognize students who have completed their secondary education through a home school setting as high school graduates . The amendment renames the relevant subsection to "From Non-Traditional Settings" and introduces a new definition for "high school graduate." Under this new provision, a student who completes secondary education in a home school setting, provided it is treated as a home school or private school under State law , will be considered a high school graduate for the purposes of the Act. This change aims to ensure that home-schooled individuals are not disadvantaged when seeking eligibility for federal student financial assistance programs by clarifying their status as high school graduates.
